Institution of Urban Education Internship
Nathan Hale High School - West Allis Central High School

The Institute of Urban Education is focused on bringing high quality educators into urban school districts. Teaching culturally relevant pedagogy and destroying stigmas about urban education that cripple learning environments in these schools.
Being an intern with this program requires that the individual is above average in teaching abilities, recommended by university department head, and is dedicated to ensuring their students receive high quality education. The position is payed in a stipend and the intern stays in one placement for the entire semester.

Sound Engineering
During Talia's internship she took initiative to gain experience with managing theatrical wireless microphones and the sound board during concerts.
She has also been teaching two sections of Sound Engineering class at Nathan Hale and West Allis Central High Schools. In this class, students experience practical problem solving situations that occur in the world of a sound engineer through a project-based structure.
Clinical Placement
- Oshkosh West High School
During the semester before a music education student goes to students teach, the program at UW Oshkosh involves a Clinical Placement where the student is placed in a choir classroom and gets to work with one or two choirs for a few hours each week.
During my placement, I had the opportunity to work with Mrs. Bethany Meyer and build relationships with her and her students. I prepared lessons, observed, and did warm ups with all of the choirs at West High School, but worked on musical pieces with the Wildcat Bass Choir and Chorale (mixed voices).

We had an absolute blast together and I learned so much more than I expected just from being granted the opportunity to work with these amazingly talented students. Please enjoy a few videos of our performances and some in-class lessons.
Private Lessons
Establishing a private studio has been a huge boost to my confidence as a teacher. I have worked with students of a wide variety of ages, learning capabilities, demographics, and experience levels. Learning to accommodate and adjust lessons as needed has helped prepare me for the classroom.

French Woods Performing Arts Camp
The summer of 2018, my boyfriend (now husband) and I travelled to New York together to teach extremely talented children about the performing arts. I was a general camp counselor, but I was able to sit in on voice lessons, other musical lessons, dance classes, rehearsals for the countless musicals, and help my campers practice for their performances.

The camp is comprised of 4 or 5 three week sessions throughout the whole summer. Campers get to choose 3 activities they want to major in (ie. Orchestra, Musicals, Dance, etc.) at the beginning of the session. Each day they also get to decide which activities they would like to minor in. There was sports, swimming, magic, everything a kid could dream of.

The experience was one in a million. I formed relationships with my campers and co-counselors that are on-going to this present day. I will never forget the impact that French Woods had on me and who I have grown into as an educator.
